Communication confidence – the goal of our Conversational English Classes.

Based on research from linguistics and education, our classes are designed to be interactive and enable you to rapidly improve in spoken English.

Anxiety is the #1 problem people experience when learning conversational English. We provide a relaxed environment where you become friends with native speakers of English.

Our teachers are certified ESL instructors, linguistics students, and experienced American language educators and coaches. We have been teaching international scholars to develop English skills for 33 years.

Our instruction focuses on pronunciation, idioms, and American culture. Classroom learning is reinforced by immediately using what is learned in a lecture by practicing with friends in small groups. See the class structure in the meeting plan below.

What are the classes like?

The large group time is a low-anxiety environment for learning English.

• Each session focuses on language learning principles, pronunciation, and idioms.
• Our approach is to help you learn efficiently and improve rapidly.
• We provide structured notes for each session as well as handouts for practicing outside of class.
• You will never be called on in the large group to speak, unless you want to.

The small group time is done in Zoom “Breakout Rooms.”

• Students read a text out loud, clarify vocabulary, ask questions, and respond to questions.
• PowerPoint is used to display the text.
• The text we use is the most widely read English book in history – the Bible, in modern English.
• You will use the things you learned in the large group immediately in the small group.
• Students return to the same small group each week to develop friendships and reduce anxiety.
• Small groups are your opportunity to speak, ask questions, and interact with friends.
